TSAI’S STORY

Gorgeous little Tsai is a very friendly 6 year old Sharpei and he was presented to us in April. He had a swelling on the back of his right leg which wasn’t very easy to demarcate but was well in himself.

Analysis of the whole region of the swelling and of areas right up by his hip (his skin seemed to have a darker colour which is what alerted us something may be wrong even there) revealed that he had a form of cancer called Mast cell tumour, which was of a quite an aggressive grade. Given how extensive this area was, he was unfortunately not able to have it removed and we had to start him on some chemotherapy drugs.

Tsai is always very brave for his rechecks and blood tests and we are glad to confirm the cancer wasn’t spread when he was diagnosed and he is now in full remission. The swelling has completely resolved and he is a very happy boy at home. Thankfully, we were able to use a tablet form of chemotherapy in his case and he tolerates them pretty well. 5 months down the line and he still charges around at the hospital when he comes for his rechecks, quite often with a vet attached at the end of the lead!
